Nathan Falter earned his BFA in ceramics and drawing from Missouri State University and his MFA in sculpture and ceramics from the University of Delaware. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Art at Missouri State University. He is both a potter and a sculptor who enjoys making both functional pots and large sculptural pieces. His work can be found in galleries and private collections both regionally and internationally. His work appears in THE CERAMIC DESIGN BOOK (Lark Press, 1998) and in 500 PITCHERS (Lark Press, 2006) Nathan co-owns Springfield Pottery, which opened in 1998, with his wife Jennifer. The studio provides a source for quality ceramic education for the community of Springfield, Missouri and the surrounding areas. I am primarily focused on the relationship a person develops with the pottery he/she uses on a daily basis. Because of this, I feel that certain rules apply .durability, ergonomics, and design with regard to function. Applying these rules/fundamentals to my ideas about form and surface, as well as my desire to decorate and accentuate, produces a balanced sensibility. THE BIRCHWARE SERIES Each piece is handbuilt, and reflects Nathans love of weathered organic surface and elegant shape. Nathans development of unique and natural surfaces guarantees that no two pieces will be identical. All the work in this series is made of durable stoneware and is dishwasher and food safe. |
