BROOKE ANDREWS

Brooke Andrews had a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and has been working with clay and teaching art since 1968.

"When I first laid my hands on porcelain, I fell in love. The pure white color and the minute particles allowed me to do very fine, detailed carvings on the surfaces of my wheel-thrown vessels. One day, just as I was finishing the last details of a fifteen-hour carving, my cat, Leslie, jumped onto the table. I reacted just enough to knock the vase over.

Before me on the table remained a pile of shards which could never be mended into a vessel again. I couldn't seem to throw these pieces away. As I sat contemplating each carved fragment, it dawned on me that I could make these into pins. With my series of pins, I create small vignettes which reflect my (previous) larger compositions."
